To find out if dampness is caused by condensation or is coming from
outside, attach a piece of silver foil to the affected area. If moisture appears on
the front surface then this is caused by condensation in the room and you
should look for better ways to ventilate the room. However, if the foil is wet
on the side of the wall, the damp is coming in from the outside and you should
seek professional help.
